The department of Nanobiotechnology, at Vision Research Foundation, was started in 2008 has now materialized into a well-equipped, state of the art lab.Department of Nanobiotechnology plays a significant role in doing cutting edge research at nanoscale including targeted drug/gene delivery for ophthalmic diseases, regenerative medicine and mechanobiology perspective. The department is well equipped to do nanoscale research for addressing the needs of clinicians. The department is very vibrant in collaborating with clinicians and other scientists across the disciplines.The focus of the department is to use nanotechnology to address the clinical needs such as corneal/retinal drug delivery using nanoparticles, nanofibers, hydrogels, and regenerative medicine.

Understanding the human ocular architecture and its cellular function at nanoscale is the driving vision for the department. We imbibe both “curiosity driven” and “application oriented” research in tandem manner to appreciate the balance of innovation and inspiration.

Mission

Innovate, Create and Understand

• Designing a new strategy/materials for improving the existing drug delivery methods for both corneal and retinal diseases. Improving or designing a nanoscale strategy for early, smart diagnosis, prognosis and therapy.


• Screening and synthesising novel materials to scaffold ocular cells for invitro culture and characterising them for understanding the disease mechanism


• Understanding the cellular and tissue environment and deciphering the bimodal influence on each other using various available technologies such as substrate stiffness, cellular stiffness measurement methods.

Inspire and Educate

• Mentoring young post graduate , graduate students from various institutes for their short term projects.


• Educate them with various research tools available in the department and impart them with the right scientific aptitude.


• Impart them the true values in the scientific field including integrity, honesty, free rational thinking, and questioning ability.

• The department is at the best in bringing the right environment that fosters creativity, learning and collaboration


• Building the centralised state of the art facility to support cross disciplinarian’s synergy for collaborations with faculties, students, and clinicians
